Don Bosco Technical Institute in Tarlac commits to Laudato Si' with WeGen

The Don Bosco Green Alliance is an international movement of young people from the Salesian Family institutions who contribute to global environmental action, thought, and policy.

With the mission to create an environment that is safe and caring for all life on the planet, the Don Bosco Green Alliance has trail-blazed in building up a new generation of environmentally committed citizens and leaders.

With presence in more than 74 countries, the Don Bosco Green Alliance is growing, with new members constantly joining the network. Besides working on the key priority areas of the alliance, the members are also involved in various other environmental initiatives, based on their local needs and challenges.

In the Philippines, the Don Bosco Technical Institute in Tarlac City, has responded to the invitation of Pope Francis, and began the journey towards the Laudato Si’, 7-Year Action Platform with WeGen Laudato Si’, by installing an impressive 99.18 kWp system, to signify their common desire, to be a Laudato Si’ Congregation, and a Laudato Si’ Business Organization.

Fr. Ian Rosal, in signing the contract with WeGen Laudato Si said that “The Pandemic gave us more reasons to push for renewable energy. This is our support for Laudato Si and the Don Bosco Green Alliance Project”.

Aside from the long-term environmental impact of this project, Fr. Ian and the Salesians in Tarlac, City, believe that this pilot project will generate significant interests among the people of Tarlac and encourage them to save from electricity costs and work together to save the planet.

We join Fr. Gerry Santos, Rector of the Don Bosco Technical Institute-Tarlac, in dedicating the system by praying: “May this simple act of harnessing light from our brother Sun, help us mitigate the global warming that our generation is contributing towards this current climate emergency. May we “see that an integral ecology calls for openness… and take us to the heart of what it is to be human.” (LS 11)
