Max's Restaurant Sucat Branch Goes Solar with WeGen

Updated: Nov 20, 2020

WeGen is proud to partner with Max’s Restaurant Sucat branch in promoting clean and renewable solar energy! WeGen installed a 56.7 kWp grid-tied PV system on the rooftop of the restaurant earlier this year.

Max’s Restaurant was born because of the friendship between its owner and American soldiers. It was in 1945 after World War II when teacher Maximo Gimenez made friends with American soldiers stationed in Quezon City. The soldiers began regularly visiting Maximo’s house but wanted to pay for the drinks they were given. Maximo was then inspired to open a café.

It was Maximo’s niece Ruby who came up with the fried chicken recipe that became an instant favorite with the soldiers, and eventually all the other Filipino customers who began to patronize the café. Soon the café because a restaurant, and this is why Max’s is known as “the house that fried chicken built.”

Sustainability and Energy Efficiency

According to reports, Max's has long embraced the values of business sustainability, and the responsibility to promote practices that promote care for the environment and energy efficiency.

Max's Sucat branch chose WeGen to be a partner in these efforts because they were impressed by WeGen's high-technology system which they can use to check the status of their solar PV installation in real-time via mobile phone through a special app.

WeGen is a reliable partner for businesses seeking to make a difference not just by bringing down their electricity costs, but by helping them contribute to efforts to fight climate change. Solar PV systems go a long way to help businesses improve their energy efficiency.

Now, different branches of the restaurant have gone solar. These Max’s branches with solar PV installations can also be known as restaurants powered by the sun.

Solar Energy Helps Restaurants

Restaurants use up much electricity for their various operations. In fact, the amount of energy they use is two times higher than that of other commercial businesses. Given this, it is not surprising that restaurants rack up humongous electricity bills. Making the switch to solar will greatly benefit them by bringing down their energy costs.

Installing solar PV panels on their roof will help restaurants power their appliances and lights. The typical restaurant use microwaves, refrigerators, and gas-fired or electric stoves. By going solar, they can automatically bring down their electricity bills. There are also solar thermal installations that generate hot water, and this is very useful for cleaning and cooking functions, especially if a restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.

Installing solar will help restaurants generate clean electricity on their rooftop at a predictable cost-per-kilowatt-hour, locked in for 25 years. By installing solar PV systems, restaurants lessen their reliance on the local grid and fossil fuels and strengthen their business with clean, free, and renewable energy.

Fighting Pollution

Restaurants also generate a lot of food waste every day. They can partner with companies that manage food waste sustainably by creating fertilizer out of it or eco-charcoal. This way, they can also mitigate the pollution they create and further bring down their carbon emissions because of the solar panels they installed.#
