St. Paul Surigao goes solar with WeGen!

To continue the efforts of St. Paul University Surigao in heeding to Pope Francis’ encyclical letter calling for ecological conversion, WeGen Laudato Si' successfully installed and turned-over 476 units of solar panels on Thursday, April 29, 2021, during an intimate turn-over ceremony held at the President’s Board Room, Basic Education Campus.

WeGen Laudato Si Vice President for Sales and Operations, Mr. Orlando C. Alparce, Jr., joined by the Regional Manager, Ms. Lerma Bernadette Reyes, and Senior Account Executive, Ms. Maria Christina Pabelic, awarded a legacy plaque to the University for the commendable efforts to strengthen the collective response to promote the use of clean and sustainable solar energy in the Philippines, and in the spirit of Pope Francis’ encyclical “Laudato Siˊ: On Care for our Common Home.”

The size of the photovoltaic system installed in the Basic Education Campus rounded up to 150 kWp which is an essentially large rate of generating solar energy at peak performance compared to an average residential PV system of 5 kWp.

Accordingly, the system will mitigate 98.045metric tons of carbon dioxide annually which is equivalent to the amount that can be alleviated by 50,017 trees planted within 25 years.

The Bishop of Surigao, Most Reverend Atonieto D. Cabajog, DD, graced the event and led the blessing of the said solar panel system.

The project was supposed to begin last March 2020. However, due to the unexpected implementation of Enhanced Community Quarantine brought about by the surge of CoViD-19 cases in the country, the installation of the solar panel system was hampered. It was only last February 2021 that WeGen Philippines and the University, through its Administrative Services Office headed by Mrs. Marites Duncano, got the installation off the ground.

The Basic Education Campus now runs on clean, safe, and renewable energy from the sun as harnessed by a solar Photovoltaic system provided by WeGen Philippines.
