WeGen and Mapecon: Working Together for a Solar-Powered, Greener Philippines

Here’s to Green Companies working together! In 2019, WeGen inaugurated Mapecon Green Charcoal Philippines Inc 's 93.24kWp grid-tied solar PV system in the said company’s facility in Alaminos, Laguna.

Comprised of 296 units (315w/panel) and three Solaredge inverters, the system is now helping MGCPI save at least P100,085.12 monthly or P1,201,0201.44 annually on electricity costs. By operating the system, the facility has sequestered 1,855 metric tons of carbon emissions, equivalent to the amount mitigated by 883,432 trees in 25 years. As a renewable energy company, WeGen is proud to have MGCPI as a client. The latter is a sister company to Mapecon (or Manila Pest Control company) which was established in 1961 by scientist, inventor, and environmentalist Mr. Gonzalo O. Catan Jr. Instead of using chemicals that pose serious threats to human and animal health as well as to the environment with long-term use, Mapecon uses organic materials that are effective pesticides.

Given the Catans’ strong advocacy for the environment, it was natural for them to choose WeGen and its subsidiary WeGen Laudato Si’ to help them make the transition to solar energy. During the system turnover ceremony in November 2019, Mr. Mars said that going solar was in keeping with the company’s goal to reduce its carbon footprint and promote renewable energy sources.

“We continue to get lower electricity bills because of our new solar PV system,” he said. “We chose WeGen to install the system because we share the same advocacy for renewable energy and because we are also partnering in promoting Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’,” he said. Partnering with companies like MGCPI is also important for WeGen.

Regional Sales Manager for IV-A Carlos Raymundo said that when WeGen secures projects with clients like MGCPI, two goals are achieved at one – promoting solar energy technology and promoting renewable energy as an alternative to coal and diesel as energy sources.

“We in the WeGen Sales Teams are very conscious of our roles as advocates for solar energy and RE. We’re not just selling solar PV systems – we are encouraging people to think about the environment and the good that they can do by making the transition to solar. We make sure to explain to potential clients that they won’t only get high-quality solar PV systems from WeGen so they can cut their electricity costs – they also help bring down their own household or business’ carbon emissions,” said Carlos.

Carlos said that this something that motivates the members of the WeGen Sales Force – the knowledge that they are also contributing to the social good. “We’re not doing traditional selling –we’re advocating environmental change,” he said. #
